JJ’s Story

JJ, a funny and energetic individual, has moved into supported living with EveryStory's help, gaining independence, learning life skills, and working towards his goals of finding a job and a girlfriend.

JJ was recently supported by EveryStory to move into a shared supported living house. People describe JJ as funny, caring and full of energy. He loves rap music, football, dancing, video games and going to church.

Before moving, JJ lived with his family. He missed them at first, but he’s proud of how far he’s come.

“Having the opportunity to live on my own and make my own mistakes is very good,” he says. “I like my freedom and independence, and having my own space.”

JJ’s move into supported living was carefully planned. He visited several times, got to know his new housemates, and brought his belongings in gradually. We carried out a detailed assessment at home, taking time to understand JJ’s needs and what a good life looks like for him. JJ’s mum was involved at every step. He was matched with people of a similar age and with similar interests, it turned out two of them even knew each other from school.

JJ is now supported to build the skills he needs for daily life. He’s learning to cook, take care of his home, and plan his days. Staff support him with budgeting and learning to travel independently. He’s now being supported to prepare for work and taking the first steps towards finding a job. JJ is growing in confidence, making more decisions for himself, and working towards his goals.

“I’d like to have a job. And a girlfriend,”
With the right support around him, JJ is taking steps towards the life he wants.
